Call For Abstracts
We welcome your participation in the 9th Infection Control Africa Network Congress (ICAN 2025) taking place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre in Cape Town, South Africa from 29 June to 2 July 2025. The congress will attract infection control practitioners from the community and hospital settings, hospital management, healthcare workers interested in IPC, CSSD staff, trainers in IPC, and hospital engineers. The theme is “Advancing IPC and AMS for a Safer Tomorrow”.
Abstracts will be blind peer-reviewed and selected based on merit and relevance to the congress theme. Abstracts chosen for oral presentation will have 15-20 minutes followed by a Q&A session. Abstracts chosen for poster presentation will be displayed throughout the congress with designated times for author interaction.

Instructions
- Submit an abstract of 250 words by no later than Friday, 7 February 2025.
- All abstracts must be submitted in English.
- All abstracts must be submitted online.
- Provide a descriptive title that is concise and clearly conveys the subject of the abstract. Please use “Title Case”, i.e., start each word with a capital letter. Do not use all capital letters or all lowercase.
- The abstract should briefly describe the context and rationale for the study aim, approach/methodology, results, and conclusions. Use a heading for each section.
- Select at least one (maximum of 2) topic(s) that best suit your submission.
- Give 3-5 keywords that best suit your submission.
- Choose oral or poster presentation. Final discretion remains with the Scientific Programme Committee.
- For submissions involving more than one author, the abstract is to be submitted by the first (main/corresponding) author. Authors should decide on order of authorship according to each person’s contribution to the work.
- Please keep in mind that final presentations for the congress must be given in person which will require you to be present at the congress. There is no virtual or remote participation.
- Submission of an abstract constitutes the commitment of at least one author to present in person, if accepted.
- There is no limit to the number of submissions.
Successful Authors
Successful authors must register and pay the relevant registration fee by 28 March 2025, or the abstract will be removed from the programme.
A limited number of bursaries will be available which will reimburse some costs for authors.
